Motor Current Calculator
Estimate motor full-load current from motor output power, system voltage, efficiency and power factor.
Estimated full-load current
Enter values
How this calculator works
3 phase: I = Output kW × 1000 / (sqrt(3) × V × efficiency × PF).
1 phase: I = Output kW × 1000 / (V × efficiency × PF).
For HP input, CalcSetu uses 1 HP = 0.746 kW.
Example
A three-phase motor with the same kW rating will draw more current when efficiency or power factor is lower.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the exact motor nameplate current?
No. Nameplate current should be used when available. This is an estimate from power, voltage, efficiency and power factor.
Does starting current equal full-load current?
No. Motor starting current can be several times full-load current depending on motor and starting method.
What HP conversion is used?
1 mechanical horsepower = 0.746 kW.
