EV Charging Cost Calculator
Estimate the electricity drawn and cost required to charge an EV from one battery level to another.

Charging loss matters: energy drawn from the wall is usually higher than energy stored in the battery. Enter an estimated charging loss or use your measured charger data when available.
How this calculator works
Battery Energy Added = Battery Capacity × (Target SOC - Start SOC).
Grid Energy = Battery Energy Added / (1 - Charging Loss Rate).
Charging Cost = Grid Energy × Electricity Tariff.
Example
A 50 kWh battery charged from 20% to 80% adds 30 kWh to the battery. Grid energy will be slightly higher when charging loss is included.
Frequently asked questions
Why is charging loss included?
Some energy is lost in the charger, battery and thermal-management process, so wall energy can exceed battery energy added.
Should I use home or public-charger tariff?
Use the actual tariff for the charging location you want to estimate.
Does battery capacity mean usable or gross capacity?
Use usable battery capacity when known for a practical driving and charging estimate.
