Income Tax Calculator
Estimate income tax for Tax Year 2026-27 under the new or old regime for a resident individual.
How this calculator works
The calculator first reduces gross income by the applicable salary standard deduction and any other deduction you enter that is legally available under the selected regime. It then applies the selected regime slabs. The new regime permits only specified deductions, so do not enter old-regime deductions unless they are also allowed under the new regime.
For the new regime, the resident-individual rebate under section 156 is applied where eligible, including the statutory marginal relief just above ₹12 lakh. A 4% Health and Education Cess is added after rebate.
Example
A salaried person under the new regime may receive the ₹75,000 standard deduction before the slab calculation. Eligibility for any additional deduction depends on the tax law and the taxpayer's facts.
Source and update note
The Tax Year 2026-27 new-regime slabs are ₹0-4 lakh nil, ₹4-8 lakh 5%, ₹8-12 lakh 10%, ₹12-16 lakh 15%, ₹16-20 lakh 20%, ₹20-24 lakh 25% and above ₹24 lakh 30%. Section 156 provides the resident-individual rebate up to ₹12 lakh under the new regime, with marginal relief just above ₹12 lakh. Health and Education Cess is 4%.
For salary income, this calculator uses a ₹75,000 standard deduction in the new regime and ₹50,000 in the old regime.
Year terminology: Under the Income Tax Act, 2025, the Tax Year concept applies from 1 April 2026. Tax Year 2026-27 means Financial Year 2026-27. It is not the same as Assessment Year 2026-27, which relates to FY 2025-26 under the earlier Act.
